I have the exact same machine; I can't use my firewire devices either. I have been searching forum all over the net for days trying to get Adobe Premier CS5 to work with the fire wire on my Gigabyte mother board. Talking about performance in my case: I've tried the above suggestion many times over and just can't get a connection.

Still nothing, so i switched off the unibrain drivers and activated the windows drivers and immediatley the system replaced the via drivers in device manager and detected my camera. I was goin nuts!
